Much has changed in 2021 compared to previous years...
Cree LEDs have lost the popularity they had gained in previous years, and are no longer the most popular brand among serious flashlight manufacturers. The reason is that Cree hasn't come out with a new flashlight LED model in years! But now they have finally launched two versions of the xhp50.3 and the xhp70.3 led, the latter is supposed to be capable of 7000 lumen!
Since Cree did not bring anything new, slowly Luminus and Osram LEDs appeared in the more innovative and later in the less innovative lamps of the manufacturers. These two manufacturers came onto the market with some very serious LEDs, and since then they have been constantly coming out with newer and newer LEDs, at a better price than Cree, and with just as good quality!
Last year Luminus entered the mid-range diffused light market with the SST40 and the SST20 replaced the segment previously saturated with Cree XML LEDs.
The Manker U22 III PM1/SFT40 has not been able to catch on as much, but a new version, the doomless SFT70, has now been released in many lamps! This led is still very fresh, but is sure to be a big hit, as its smaller brother the SFT40 ! It is about the same as the XHP35 hi, but with 3000 lumens !
Luminus' biggest bang for the buck was the SBT90.2 led, which puts out up to 6500 lumens and has a huge range to go with it, easily dethroning the xhp70.2 with its "frivolous" 4000 lumens.
And what has only really started to take off in the last few months, and in my opinion is Luminus' best solution so far, is the SFT40 LED, the perfect solution if you want to combine high brightness with a long range at an affordable price. The new Convoy C8+ with its 700m range and 2000 lumens, which includes the SFT40 LED, has in my opinion become the perfect hunting light. And in the infralight market, the affordable SST10-IR has appeared.
In contrast, Osram lights (including the best known of the less imaginatively named KW CSLNM1. TG) have stolen the hearts of flashlight enthusiasts with their incredible ranges and very low power consumption, these little LEDs are great in a small flashlight like the Lumintop GT Nano, they don't need much juice (the super tiny 10180 battery pack holds just 100 mAh), they still give a good range, but in a larger size lamp like the Convoy L21a they give up to 1200m range for a reasonable amount of money, which is why many large manufacturers have switched from XHP35 LEDs.
Unfortunately, the covid has not spared flashlights and batteries and the fluctuating supply of materials for manufacturing and the brutal increase in the cost of transport has pushed up prices in the last year, not helped by the 10-20% depreciation in the value of the forint.
Of course, there are some new emerging LED manufacturers on the market, the newest and most brutal LED is currently called SFH55, and it can emit up to 9300 lumen luminous flux, but it is so new that there is still little experience, Of course, Astolux has already come out with a lamp using such a LED, we hope it will be available here soon.
